MINI-LESSON/ACTIVITY

  • By this point in the course, teacher(s) and students are familiar with the Tip Guide and Action Guide resources PowerPoetry.org has to offer, but the Glossary of Poetic Terms has yet to be explored in full
  • Each group in the classroom will choose one term from the Glossary to focus on
  • For the first 30 minutes of class each group will write a collective poem (10-15 lines) incorporating the chosen term
  • For the remainder of class, each group will briefly present to the class the meaning of their chosen term and its use in their poem

SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIAL

HOMEWORK

  • Students will review in-depth the remainder of the Glossary
  • Students will choose a different term than the one chosen in class to base a poem around and construct a 10-15 line poem
  • The day students will present their poems to the class, but instead of sharing the term beforehand, the class will have to guess for each poem which term was chosen
