Before we all began, they say,
Adam and Eve lived WASPy lives in Eden, USA—
Adam worked in finance—
Eve was a housewife—
Both lived conservative lives, bookended by church on Sundays.
Adam coached little league on Saturdays.
Eve baked pies for the school bake-sale.
In their living room hung a portrait of the two, smiling—
But, in truth, Adam and Eve never lived together;
A white picket fence separated the two—
On one side lived Adam and Steve
On one side lived Aida and Eve
All in bliss.
Until society forced them to swallow hatred and shame—
and then we all began.
