Americans The Ugly

It’s called

The Motor City

Motown

Capital of the 20th century

Detroit

It’s now known for

1967 riots

2013 bankruptcy

Most dangerous city in US

Title 1 schools

Why?

People gave up

only seeing the negative

only seeing the color

only seeing “thugs”

I hear things

“Are you afraid to live there?”

“When I hear Detroit,

nothing good comes to mind.”

“I’m sorry your daughter lives in Detroit,

that must be scary for you.”

Americans, outsiders, ugly hearts, the downfall of this once striving city

I see

Hardships

Run down houses

Kids thirsty for more

Poverty

More importantly I see

Potential

Deserving humans

Loving parents

Faith in restoration

Positive change
