Beauty is the Beast (Free Verse)

Sun, 07/23/2017 - 18:19 -- Kiki_13

I walk through the woods

seeking a rose,

for a lovely maiden waiting back home.

As I trudge through the brush,

stings, swats and scratches,

I come upon a bright red rose glistening,

But eyes behind gleam green,

and snarls echo in the dark,

“Who goes goes there?”

Claws reach out and snatch my arm,

dragging me through the shades of greens,

coming upon a shadowed castle.

Looking up to a disfigured face,

long tangled hair and fur all over,

lanky limbs and tattered dress.

Shivering, I ask ‘’Who are you?”

“I am the embodiment of human greed,

beware how you live or you shall become me.

I am a walking cautionary tale, I chose me over everyone else.”

Weeks I spent, entrapped in this mansion

Looking further  in than just an ugly face,

spectacular smarts, and warming heart.

A beautiful maiden lies underneath,

and my princess she shall be.
