Black America

Twisted Soul

A heart dark as midnight

You hurt my people, do you not love my people

My brother, there’s way too many of you dying

Fathers, oh fathers, there’s way too many of you dying

My sister, come hug one another

They say joy comes in the morning

Well when will morning come?

Feels like I’m living in the darkness

Joy in the morning is what we sing

My people stand up and believe

We are kings and queens

Freedom is what we fight for

Freedom is what I write for

I am a Freedom Writter

Joy comes in the morning

After the dark sacred nights

We shall overcome this neglect

This death trend cannot continue

O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave

Says those who serve to kill

Kill our courage, kill our pride, kill our joy, and snatch our lives away

Shackle us up in cages

The jail is their new slave ship

Change is coming

Coming to those who wait?

Coming to those who refuse to settle

Starting today, promise you will make a difference

For you and your futue children
