The Blind Path To Freedom

In the eyes of their mothers
Justifiable fear,
driven by the monsters in the dark that do exist
She can't tell you it isn't true

In the eyes of your community
Indignation, pride
Sinking as each blow
Hits closer, closer to home

Bloodshot eyes from too many nights awake,
hands clenched together, asking Lord, why?

Eyes once bright, once so full of hope,
fading, fading, gone

And the sweet innocence of a child
Born into a world full of hate
Blooming potential
Destroyed by another

Marching on, marching forward
Though their eyes are but dimming
The light is at the horizon
On their blind path to freedom
