Break Through

Civil Rights?
Yeah, right.
We have hindered any rights that we have.
Did they fight?
Of course they did.
Taken two steps back, we have.
They fought for us to get an education.
We go to school and act a fool.
They fought for us not to be put on the back of the bus.
When we get on a school bus, we head straight for the back.
They fought for us not to be called the "N" word.
We now use it in place of our names.
They used non violence to fight.
Black on black crime is still on the rise.
We have not only embraced our stereotypes,
But now we live them.
It's time for a break through.

My poem takes a different turn in the area civil rights. Instead of talking about the civil rights our ancestors fought for, I talk about the rights we are diminishing.
