A Broken Love

We were lightness and darkness, a foil when together-

A bond we thought would withstand the weather.

Our friendship consisted of joyful bliss and laughter-

A love so pure that people sought after.

Years ago, Frost forewarned us that "Nothing gold can stay."

"Together forever" to him we'd say.

But selfish desires soon took hold of both of our minds;

Around us, vines of lies began to wind.

Our few similarities attracted us to him.

When asked about him, we lied on a whim.

While we soon realized we were more than friends at heart,

Our lust for the same man tore us apart.

When our feelings for him and each other became known,

Deep down a hatred and mistrust had grown.

In the war of lies and love that waged on, the lies won;

So, all in one day our friendship was done.

After the lies and fights, I assumed your love was fake.

So, hate grew in me, more than I could take.

Months flew by with no conversations with each other,

But deep down we still loved one another.

Once before, we were listening to ASAP Rocky.

LSD... our song that none could copy.

Anytime I hear that song I always think of you.

I heard it today. My thirst for you grew.

Well you were listening to the same station as I

I read your text and didn't question why.

In that moment, I knew, that fate played it for you too:

"I can't hear this song without thinking of you."

A gateway was opened and our friendship ran back in.

And now we watch our next chapter begin.

It won't take us long to remember the love we've got;

If romance returns, let's give it a shot.

Through faith, love, and trust we can rebuild what we once had.

Keep lies out the way and we won't be sad.

That said and done, I hope you feel the same way I do,

And I say all this because I love you.
