Build A Wall

Build a wall and no one can enter

Build a wall and you’re safe from all the bombarding

That wall built over time, built by the years, built by the moments

Each brick a moment

Every encounter the mortar

Brick after brick after brick

that wall was erected

once it was built there was no tearing that thing down

It wanted to stay built

It needed to stay built

Behind that wall you became strong, a force

Bombs were thrown, cascading down your wall

But no- you would throw them to the ground

Shaming them in even trying to break you

Sometimes the wall would even bounce back

becoming alive and breathing and speaking and expressing

Even with that wall though the war was not over

No, wars don't end after a structure is placed

No, tension does not cease because of an edifice raised

The wall and its contents still rattled in fear, scared into the corner

could the wall withstand all this torture?

Would the bricks crumble and fall under pressure?

Don't let those bombs tear you down.

You are better than that.

It’s not you.

You have worth.

But the wall only withstood physical beratement

Intensity seeped through cracks and dribbled down edges

Wore you down and

Tried to throw more bricks on top,

But it was too late

The foundation had begun to crumble and the mortar was no longer keeping bricks together
