The Cave

Tue, 01/12/2016 - 14:40 -- Murdoch

Where am I? Who am I?

I have just awakened here.

Where do I go? Is this fear?

I listen to silence and wonder.

Can I not see or is this eternal darkness?

Saunter forth through the cave.

Slippery damp atmosphere.

I do not see like, I feel no wall.

I hear a heavy breathing; not mine at all.

Sweating I keep trudging;

The floor my feet nudging.

A wall appears and is not budging.

Feeling along with great hope;

It must lead to light; I grope.

Footsteps are heard; yet mine are not echoing.

Water drips, it is not still but flowing.

Heart beats faster, I stumble forth.

The feeling gets closer, a pressure inside.

It’s completely dark yet I must hide!

Jogging forth, growling ensues.

I can’t get away, what do I use?

What do I do? How short is its fuse?

Running faster, I think I see light!

Sprinting now, I think that I might--

I trip, fall when it is in sight.

I try to get up,

It grabs my leg,

I try to get free

It drags me back in

I scream and should

But I cannot win.
