(poems go here) Civil Rights
What is my civil right?
I am black but am I equal to a white?
Can I get the right to vote like everyone else?
I feel like i'm nothing to you, like dirt under a nail
Can I get the same education as everyone I may see on T.V?
Or will I have to take two or three buses to a school of my color ?
Because if I go to an all whites school, we wouldn't be able to sit next to each other.
My civil right is not very civil to my eye in the world that I look at today which is 1955
Will I get brutally beaten, shot, dumped into a river, for whistling to a woman who was white?
Or will I have to give up my seat that was rightfully mine because I walked further than any white to even think of walking, and soon later from the bus boycott Martin Luther King instructed hear lots of talking? No, I am not a racist I love everyone the same but during this civil rights movement, blacks and white were treated anyway but the same.
