If it weren’t for the Civil Rights Act of 1964
All I’d be doing is cooking and cleaning, nothing more.
It allowed men and women to be hired for the same job
And helped people without white skin quiet their sobs.
The workforce became a place for everyone
Not just the white men and their sons.
Women and the minorities were filled with joy
Now they could really have something to enjoy.
Women didn’t have to depend on their husbands anymore
This allowed them and their dreams to soar.
This is the way we live now, the fair way,
There is nothing more that I can really say.
Except that I am thankful to be living in this decade,
Working for myself and not being a house maid.
