Civil Rights Movement

Have you ever been mistreated?

Have you ever been a victim of discrimination?

Black people have.

Black people have suffered and died for my freedom and equality

So could blacks and whites get along? possibly

But in the eyes of the Klu Klux Klansmen that’s comedy

Being black in certain states is hard

Them white people look at us like we don’t even have a green card

But being a black youth is difficult

Them white people look at us like we’re dirty rats

The white folks think they better than us.  Please show me the stats

Matter fact get my bat

Cause I'ma hit a homerun with this poem

See Today y’all gon learn some black history

It will no longer be a mystery

Let me start with mississippi

up to 400 college kids, I repeat, rioting because Obama won the election over mitt romney

It just so happens to be on the 50th anniversary of the first integration of ole miss

What did they think was going happen after this?

Them fools out there being racists, all because what a black man is president

Martin Luther King was no fool

What he said is coming true

Slowly but surely

But now I'm talking prematurely.

Mississippi is one of the worst places to be if you are black

Cause all you gotta do is whistle at a white woman and get attacked

Emmett Till was only 14 when he allegedly whistled at a white woman

He was dragged out of his bed in the middle of the night and beaten to death

He screamed and cried until he took his last breath

Then he was thrown into the tallahatchie river

Three days later his body was found, and the smell of him made everybody shiver

Unknown to most Emmett had a stutter and to fix it he had to whistle

What them men did to Emmett was definitely uncivil

Now I want to go to Alabama

Montgomery Alabama, That is 1965

When Rosa Parks sat down on the bus because she was tired

She was arrested because she didn’t want to give up her seat to a white man

Or the March from Selma to Montgomery. The klu klux klansmen tried to assassinate Martin luther king

But instead hit innocent supporters of the civil rights movement

All them people was singing “keep your eyes on the prize” and “let freedom ring”.

And boy did they sing.

They also sang we shall overcome

And we have overcome many things but not everything

Oh and let’s not forget about the 4 little girls that was killed

in the 16th street church bombing.

For the KKK it was calming

For us it was alarming

All them little girls were doing was praising the lord

And preparing a sermon called “ Al lord that forgives”

Now see the lord is like me and you

He may forgive but the Lord will never forget.

Now let’s go to North Carolina

It was February 1, 1960 when college students went into diners and restaurants

and sat at the front.

They had methods

If some were arrested then more would come in and replace them

If some were beaten then some would come and shield them so it can be blunt.

We were getting beaten and lynched.

Our homes were being burned down

Black americans have had a hard time

We didn’t have any power

We still don’t have any power

Even Obama ain’t got no power

because them congressmen

won’t let him do anything.

So what power do we have as americans?

I’d Say none

Because we can’t get nothing done  without somebody or something standing in our way

Martin Luther King said “ I have a dream”

But for us blacks that dream was a Nightmare.
