Corner of the Patio

The corner of the Patio at a family-friends party, [insert city here], New Jersey
age group: 17-21
population: me

Getting up for a new plate of food or can of soda every fifteen minutes, I try to blend in with the rest of the bodies, walking aimlessly, weaving in and out of each other like clockwork until their owners realize it’s getting easier to tell between who’s familiar with their surroundings and who’s pretending

They say that the average 2-person conversation needs to last a minimum of 13 seconds after the initial introduction for both people to successfully commit each other’s names and faces to memory

I sit back and watch everyone else’s clocks countdown
my corner of the patio is stretching further away from the crowd each moment I remain nameless, and faceless
