The Daring Soul

The time was now
No one would change her mind
She threw in her bonnet
Into the pile of hats
And dared to run for president
Not only as a woman
But as an African-American
Against all odds, against all hope
People noticed her potential
But the world was not ready
Neither for a woman or an African-American
Although she lost she began the movement
That not only could an African-American run for office
But that a woman could try
This daring soul was Shirley Chisholm
The African-American women who dared
