Dear The One,

Dear The One,

If you didn't already know,

You reap what you sow.

Please, take caution, my friend.

I don't want these lies to trend,

Or let our friendship come to an end.

We've been through so much.

It meant more than a sensual touch.

We stayed up all day and night.

We fought through the fight

And lasted more than just one night.

Do you remember when we met?

It was only you on which my heart was set.

At the late night carnival,

When my friends and I played basketball,

You came to cheer us on.

We ended up winning the game

And it felt nice to have some fame,

But then I saw you walk away.

I ran to beg you to stay

And the answer that I received was gray.

Your answer was "yes" and "no" at the same time.

You stared at me as if I committed a crime.

Eventually, I saw a smile creep onto your face

And I felt as if I wasn't just talking up your space.

You noticed that I too was running that race.

Th guys had dared me to get your number,

But with every word my walls had crumbled.

You gave it to me, reluctantly.

From then on, we texted constantly.

Those were some of our best moments, truly!

Over weeks and months, our relationship grew.

One day, I just knew.

This is the "one" I'll be with my entire life,

Even if we go through strife.

Our love was so strong that it couldn't be cut with a knife.

When we started getting really serious,

I asked your father for his daughter's hand and felt rapturous.

There was a lot of questioning

And loads of manly testing,

But I got the "Yes" and bought your ring.

The proposal process was harder that I thought,

But I was certain that I only had one shot.

I gathered our friends and family behind your back,

Made sporadic purchases so that you couldn't keep track,

And your response to it all was without lack.

Your screaming and smiling never stopped.

"Yes," you exclaimed. I'm glad my plan hadn't flopped.

Wedding planning lasted for what felt like years.

It revealed some of our hidden fears,

And out of stress, we downed some beers.

The time for the big day finally came.

As we prayed with those who love us the same.

Saying "I do" showed what we're made of,

Then they released our only white dove

To signify the bounds we will travel in love.

We adjusted to the married life quite quickly,

And decided to buy a house with a shady tree.

She loves it when I flex,

Which led to us having sex.

Now we must buy things in blue, or with a T-Rex.

We were moving on steadily and on track.

Our little boy said, " I love you to the moon and back,"

But we replied, " I love you to the depths of Mars."

Soon enough our boy was obsessed with candy bars

And loved to reach for the stars.

Sixteen years later, we sat at his graduation

And watched him turn from a boy into a man.

He decided on a college and moved away.

We got invited to Bingo and decided to play.

Now, I still look at you the same way.

I still play those memories now and then

Of us at the carnival, way back when.

From our very first flirt,

To the chocolate stain on my shirt,

I'll love you forever, even when in the dirt.

Forever,

Your Only
