Buildings rise to heaven
unconstrained
Leaving the unexplained disappearance of the sun and moon
My boots beat against the dirty, wet sidewalk after last night's rainfall.

Joplin's "Summertime" makes me reminisce a time of warmth
like those prolonged hugs that made my insides smile
When the gentlest breeze caressed my bare skin
like your smooth hands against my cheeks
bringing me ever so close
lingering
just before a
Kiss
The sun reassured promised happiness
Nothing could go wrong that summer.

The wind's icy fingers pull at my hair
Cold pinches my nose and ears
neon lights flash and
blurred cars rush to the sound of chaotic harmony
Millions surround me yet,
I'm alone without you here by my side

Company of my hopes and dreams tug at the corner of my coat
Reminders of why this city is still beautiful in the bitter cold and seemingly never-ending rain.
a single raindrop hits my eye and trickles down my face
I left that summer.
"Bye, Bye Baby"
Tonight I'll be up with this city while you and the rest of the world are soundly asleep.
