A Dream Set Us Free

It all began with a fretful dream,
nightmares of never being free.
Waking up in cold sweats,
startled by screams.
And we dare have the courage to believe
that one day we’ll be treated as human beings.
After being robbed, scolded, and left
with a shameful dignity
that'll never elicit any sympathy.
Though our souls are weeping a parallel symphony,
aching to be diverted from this frailty
No we aren't the same color you and me,
but is it fair to treat us without
any humanity?
To beat us senseless with insecurities
And leave us to tolerate the company of misery.
One man's dream proved this grody lifestyle wasn’t our destiny.
He imagined shades of black and white dancing in serene unity
With rhythm guided by a peaceful harmony.
He couldnt disregard this dream as an abandoned memory
So he woke up and made it a reality
He marched and fought for equality.
and it was our lives he saved
by having the nerve to be brave
Brave enough to pave the way
heroic enough to speak up and say
that we've endured enough pain.
No longer will we be perceived as slaves
either give us the privilege or we'll take the liberty to walk free today
