Duty, Honor, Sacrifice

Masked by disguise, conspicuously I arise, into the night from cover. Unbeknown by day, stealth as I lay,I inch closer, and closer undiscovered.  The sweltering heat, wet palms, sweaty feet, give cause for pause,so I wonder? What's the real purpose of this clandestine mission, when I could be back home fishing?  However, the obligation evident,my duty clear,to take no prisoners, while I am here. Boom, boom goes the artillery, bang, bang, go the guns, and when the smoke clears, though winning, but who's really won? We lost our commander,my best friend is dead, and as I look around, all that blood running red. The wounded, the broken, the tattered and torn, wishing that they, had never ever been born.  A cry goes out,we're headed back home, but combat stress, has altered their dome. TBI, Suicide,PTSD,hey look there's Bobby, but that ain't he. Another heroes welcome, wow, but how much does that pay?I ain't got no job,and I'm homeless, sad to say. A big parade is planned, they pin medals on my chest, but when it's all said, and done, where the hell is the rest?  War is hell, and it's good what?Absolutely nothing,so what the ****! Yet we still go,salute the Warriors, understand,be safe, make it back home, with a prayer, and a plan. GOD be with you,in that battle zone, the families here waiting, now left all alone. Duty, Honor, much Respect,a graveyard, a tombstone, with much regret. No quit, No surrender, must take it over,RIP describes the life,of the dedicated Solider.  Hearthrob,DaPoetSCJjr
