Ekphrasis: Instincts

I see the world

From up a tree

What might this world

Be waiting for me

I wait to hear your wings

Fly through the wind

The crunch of your feet in the nest

And your tweet so I can rest

I want to feel your beak

Scratch my little neck

And place my head near you

For my instincts tell me to

I want to taste the worms

You hunt for me everyday

That has a little touch

Of the flavor in your mouth

Please

Feed me

Cuddle me

Protect me

Teach me

And give me love

One day I’ll make you proud
