An Empty Chair

Location

They sit alone.

There’s no one there.

They’re on their own.

An empty chair.

It’s one helpless human.

It’s one distressed soul.

A helping hand has proven

To fulfill its role.

A simple “Hello”,

Or “How do you do”;

A smile will show

That they mean something too.

Why do we pass by

Without a second glance?

We don’t want to pry,

But we could save a life perchance.

What is Holding us back?

Is it Pride? Reputation?

It’s courage we lack.

That’s the simple explanation.

When it’s all said and done,

And my life is near over,

My legacy has begun,

And I wasn’t a poser.

Not caring how I’m viewed,

Or what my future will hold,

I’ll be someone who fought the feud.

Someone who was bold.

They sit alone.

There’s no one there.

They’re on their own.

An empty chair.

Will you be a helping hand?

Will you make them smile?

Time is but a grain of sand.

It will be worth your while.
