EVERYBODY'S BUSY

You ever notice how everybody's busy.
How walking passed someone without a simple hello has become acceptable.
How not uttering a simple acknowledgement has become the norm.
How friendliness is now being misinterpreted for creepiness, needing, or wanting from.

I remember a time when knowing everyone on the block and the next one over wasn't strange.
I remember when having a conversation with someone you met  3 minutes ago wasn't outlandish.
I remember when holding the door open for someone wasn't a rarity.

These days
Now a days
Anymore

Terms used to describe what the times are not.

"People are crazy now a days"
Mental illnesses have been an issue for centuries.
With ignorance comes bliss, but once the sweet nectar of the koolaid wears off we soon understand that it's possible for someone to kill somebody for no good reason.

"Things have changed"
Nothing has changed, but the revolution of the Internet, smart phones, and 1,000 recipes for kale.
The issues of the modern day teenager (regarding popping a pimple you didn't realize was on your face until Econ) stay the same no matter who is in the Whitehorse, or  on TV, or singing on the radio.

"You can't trust people anymore"
First of all you are using the term "anymore" incorrectly. You use it in referral to a quantity of something. Secondly what does that say about you. Is the idea of a complete stranger coming to your home and killing you all too common or have you watched all the Scream movies in a row.

I'm saying hi!!! I don't want your skin, nor do I wish for its cold texture. You haven't felt the touch of a gentle compliment in so long. Please let me coress you with my tongue and my lips and my teeth be framed to utter unto you a peaceful song of harmony and humanity.

This is not community. This is harsh winds in high mountain tops. This is a frozen hello thrown against a brick wall. Why in my generation must we have such hard shells.

But I digress.

It might not be the murderers or the change in time. It's just that were busy. Just too damn busy.
