Flames

Fighting out of the jim crow entoil
painful for the black
difficult for the white
impossible for our closeted flames

hated by the law
loathed by the public
our flames execrated by the church

fighting for equality of rights
hurting for similar benifit
living for par choice
Dying for the cause

I am a PERSON
and I did NOT choose this
Who would CHOOSE to be subject of hate
Burning for the love of a forbidden sort

separated for color
severed by hate
tried to deny my lover
but it was to late

they were the sheild
but i was the challenge
because He loved me
and he'd die for it

flames ment to be free
burned down the closet
beaten back inside
then told its better on the other side

he takes me away so we can be safe
let our love burn into the night
away from the hate
and cold hearted hoods

hunted down
then take me far
lock me up
make him stay away

i sob for his love
he runs with suicide
world lays blame
I'm the sheep for the slaying

all because no one could handle our flame
