Girl Like You

Find myself longing to be young once more,

Reflecting on tea parties at age four,

Dress-up with friends, and curling our hair,

Pretending that stilettos were fun to wear.

Oh, how I miss those days!

Ironic, because I always said I couldn't wait to grow up.

I lived in a castle I built on my own,

Waited for my handsome prince to come home.

Scaled every mountain and crossed every stream,

Followed the rainbows and chased down my dream.

I let my life shine like a light before men,

Fought to be the fairest in the land.

With a child's faith, I saw my dreams come true,

Way back when I was a young girl like you.

Now I am grown, right out of my teens,

Forgot how to pretend, too caught up with things.

Crushed by reality thrust upon me,

The world trying to say who I should be.

Oh, how I am confused!

Ironic, because I always said I knew who I was inside.

We live in a world that tells us who we are,

Instead of letting us girls to follow our hearts.

Scaling high mountains and crossing wide streams,

Forgetting that we once knew how to dream.

Taking up life as if it's a burden to bear,

We had our wonderlands and left them there.

With a child's faith, we saw our dreams come true,

Way back when we were just young girls like you.

It's time to return

To the girls that we were.

Remember that we are all princesses,

Daughters of our High King, Jesus!

Back to our magic fairies and elves,

Wearing our crowns like we're proud of ourselves.

Scaling impossibles and crossing extremes,

Looking like women and acting like queens!

Knowing our strengths and being strong again,

Loving our children and trusting our men.

With a child's faith, all our dreams can come true,

Just like they did when I was a girl like you.
