Gods and Goddesses

Over the ages, we’ve fought for equality,

Freedom, and independence.

We still fight for those same things

In this day and age.

In some places, we’re respected as a human being.

In others, we’re treated as dirt or heathens..

Some families drown their daughters in order to have sons.

Some families marry off their daughters to achieve social status..

Isn’t it hard enough to undergo menstruation,

Without having to fight everyone who challenges

Our very existence?

We’re not gods, or goddesses.

We’re mortal.

If you hit us, we bleed.

If you chastise us, we cry.

If our heart stops beating,

We die.

We’re all human beings.

Why not treat us like one?
