Hidden in Shadow

When you told me that you loved me I believed every word

When they told me how wrong you were I thought they were absurd

But then you began to hold so tightly

And then I started to see what had been growing so slightly

There shuttering in your heart was the howl of possession

And it tore through you so greatly it smothered you in depression

You tried to put me in a gilded cage

Feeding me lies to dull my rage

So foolish I was to make a mistake so grave

Now my heart is dark and empty like an abandoned cave

Because that is not how I love you works

It does not settle in the shadows where it lurks

The wings can only beat with trust

Or the relationship will soon combust

Speak softly with words that are kind

Make sure your feelings aren’t the only ones in mind

You must support each other with a balance like a scale

Tip too much one way and it will fail

Don’t push, Don’t shove

Stroke love gently like a dove

All these sentences came rushing out

But all you did was shout

Now I sing from the closed window “Love comes in many ways, Keep it healthy or it decays.”
