Poetry was introduced to me at a point in my life when I did not feel like I belonged. My parents did not understand me and I did not fit in at school either. I turned to poetry as a form of escape. My english teacher, Ms. Rispoli gave an assignment that consisted of writing a couple lines of poetry on any topic. As I started the assignment, I felt my heart beginning to losen. Although I was feeling misunderstood in the other areas of my life, with a pen and paper, I could express and understand my own self.
