Human skin

I know
I am white
You do not have to stare
At me
With your doe eyes
And envy
I know
I am white
I hate this skin
Keeping us apart
This lesson we've all been taught
That black and white and grey
Cannot mix
That your skin and my skin
Are not made of star stuff
Just alike
That our brains and hearts
Don't beat the Same way
Think the Same way
Adversity and love and
Trial and truth and
Our hands
With five fingers each and
The hope in our
Eyes and
This longing for friendship and love

And hope

And do you think I don't know
I am white

I know
I am white

Why does this change things

I am human
You
Are human
