I’m a Negro and A Hero

Left without a life to spare
From birth on this earth without freedom
Shattering my blood on dirt with the same color of my skin
And I think on my kin
1 million white men with a grin on their face
Thinking I’m such a disgrace
And I’m supposedly not worth it
I’m strong Not wrong
For wanting what I want
And as I fought I thought
“Black with a Belligerent Spirit”
And I’m supposedly not worth it
All the discrimination in this nation
Led to the United States devastation
It’s a mess with Lincolns stress
I must ignore cuz I value more than I can afford
But money, slavery, not even the drapery on my back don’t make me
It’s just my bravery
So I am definitely worth it!

This is a poem that I decided to write on my thoughts about an African American at the time of the civil rights movement.
