I Am A Daughter of Change
Location
I a citizen,
Free to think,
Free to be.
I am a student,
Given the ability to learn,
About justice, civil rights, liberty.
I am a young woman,
Inspired by bold voices,
Those who risked their life, to take a stand.
I am who I am today,
Because of knowledge,
Given through their gentle hands.
I have learned to be,
A citizen of peace,
That these rights, they belong to me.
I do not raise a sign,
Of anger or greed,
But of loving sincerity.
I have a chance,
To speak up,
And speak out.
I am a citizen,
Filled from the core with hope,
There remains to be no doubt.
I stand up,
For my given rights,
Like Rosa Parks.
I am allowed,
To express myself,
Through all forms of art.
I may be small,
And I may speak softly,
But I make my words count.
I am change,
Always moving like the wind,
Every part of me, every ounce.
I know my place,
When to hold my tongue,
And when to speak my mind.
I am given rights,
To live, be free,
To use wisely my time.
I am not promised tomorrow,
Thus, today I will say,
Words that will make a sound.
I have civil rights,
I am a voice of change,
One that helps liberty resound.
