I am an Independent Being

Strong

Independent

Brave

Undefeated

All words I sought to correctly describe myself

They were true definitions until you introduced yourself

I thought I had it great

The glass slipper fit

But behind the castle gates where no one could see

You put your hands on me

You broke me in pieces

Left me on the floor to clean your violent scene

In public the cuts and bruises hidden by clothing

Each move granting me a look that instills fear in me

My strength, confidence, and self-esteem diminished in your every waking moment

Replaced by self-loathing, shattered dreams, a broken soul

Love fled this relationship once you put those first tears in my eyes

And deep inside the walls no one can hear my screams and cries

For even if they did it's too late I'll save myself

I am an independent being
