I Am a Woman
I am a woman,
So I must be perfect.
I am a woman,
So I can't be too fat or too thin.
Too ambitious or too meek.
Too smart or too stupid.
Too sexy or too prudish.
My life is defined by boundaries I must stay within to please society.
Because I am a woman.
And no matter how I fight these walls,
They hold me me in.
I'm trapped.
Physically.
Psychologically.
Socioeconomically.
Because I am a woman.
Because when I try to stand for myself,
I am too loud.
Too bossy.
Too angry.
I cannot do anything without a critical, demeaning eye.
Because I am a woman.
When will I be free?
