I Know Who I Am

People try to tell me I’m a fake,

But whether they like it or not,

I am exactly what I say I am.

They say I just pretend to be brave,

But I know I am brave.

They say I only wish I was smart,

But I know I am smart.

They say I am far from strong,

But I know I am strong.

People try to mold me into what they think I should be:

He thinks I should be shy.

She thinks I should be delicate.

But they can’t change me:

I am outgoing.

I am assertive.

I know who I am.

I always know who I am.

Three in the morning, sick as a dog,

I still know who I am.

All dressed in black, feeling indescribable pain,

I still know who I am.

Listening to them, trying to get me to be something I’m not.

I still know who I am.

I know who I am,

And no one will ever change that.
