~Island Prison Cuban Dreams 90 Miles S Where It All Began!~

Location

Cuban soil, a land that may never be free...Free

for us to roam as our ancestors once did or for

me to visit as I please. Many stories Cuban

streets hold but were so afraid to be told. Cuban

prisoners living within an island prison, not

knowing but questioning the reality of one day

being free.  Free to live a life they're ancestors

once only dreamed of but sacrificing a land they
once new but also loved... Only now to live in a

land unknown but not their own, as the US of A

that many Americans now take for granted.

Forgetting but taking forgranted a freedom that

many Americans losttheir lives for so that... We

as Americans in todays day & age wouldnt be on

an island prison that our ancestors were once

exiled from. Told to never return unless their beliefs

were the same as other island prisoners which if

they would return... Only to be prosecuted for having

a dream as Dr. King once did,  not being able to live

the fifth amendment dream on their island prison.

Thats only 90 miles south from where their new lives

& dreams are about to take flight... In the US of A

that so many Americans tend to take for granted for

many Cubans.... Who may never set foot on the soil

of the island prison that they longed for but once held

them captive but... Were now able to serve there

dreams making them reality as Dr. King once did while

being able... To have their own beliefs & live the fifth

amendment dream!

 Author Notes

This poem was inspired last night while listening to Poetry Cafe on 96.3 as Dr. Kathleen Hellen who was telling her story about... When her mother was spat on for being Japanese in the middle of a farmers market and all her mother was trying to do... Was instill culture and show them their new town in which the recently moved to in Pennsylvania! Her story and poems inspired me to write about our own trials and tribulations faced that so many today take for granted including the fifth amendment. Looking forward to reading your comments but I hope you enjoy it!
