Land of the Free?

Land of the free?
Years of living on the same land
And all I’ve learned is that they want me to leave.
With a baggage ready in hand
The land insists I find a new place to stay.

With a few months of age,

The land sent my family away

What bravery is seen today?

Of those who cannot see foreigners stay?

Stay for a better life in their land of the ‘free’

The racial segregation of the 50s and 60s

Is that what freedom means to this land?

Feeling the need to conceal same-sex marriage in the 80s and 90s

Is that the bravery this land shows?

Concealing its so called ‘flaws?’

Racial prejudice must end

The change this country needs has to begin

If it doesn't I'll just have one thing in mind as I lay in bed

I'll need to move again,
Because this isn't the land of the 'free’ and what people picture it to be.
