Lessons Learned

From the first moment I saw you,

I fell for you more and more with  every wave...

Until one day the tide turned,

and the waters got rough...

You left me out there to drown,

you watched me struggle...

And from that moment all that love turned to hate,

I let the tide pull me under...

Contempt that one day,

you too would be caught by the wave...

Then the waters settled,

and as I drew that first breath...

I finally realized that I never needed you to pull me back to shore,

because I had taught myself how to swim...
