A Letter to My Future Self

Dear Future Self,

As you begin your journey into adulthood,

Remember who you were way back when.

The days of waking up on Christmas morn

And ripping open present after present

Turns into waking up, anxious to see your loved

Ones open their gifts with happiness in their eyes.

Growing up means letting go of the little things;

It is about finding the beauty of life and the joy

In watching the sun rise and fall each day.

As we grow, we forget our younger selves,

The way our eyes were filled with such joy

And troubles seemed so far away.

I hope that as I have grown older,

I haven’t forgotten the magic I once loved.

My hope is that I am the same cheery, full of life

Child I was long ago.

While we speak, I have to apologize.

I am sorry for not realizing how truly

Amazing you are. I am sorry that I didn’t

Appreciate your beauty and grace while you were

Going through hard transitions and “awkward stages”.

I hope that as I have gotten older, I have

Begun to know my worth, and began to act accordingly.

I want you to know that I’ve begun to change too;

I already see things differently -- in a different

Light than before. And I can only hope you will

Continue in my footsteps.

Sincerely,

Your past (and still growing) self
