John sees it,
His muse, his love, the one,
The features of an angel,
Golden hair with misty eyes,
Fit, tall, and enchanting,
A moment of bravery,
Like a net in the water,
The catch of the day,
No, a lifetime,

A dark room,
Candles in the lowlight,
Nervousness fills John,
Wasps in his stomach,
The wine eases him,
Awkward conversation,
A relieving touch on his hand,
The world rolls of his shoulders,
Laughing and screaming,
Feeling mutual,
Decision well made

Walking through the park,
Hand clasping hand,
Two flames under the night sky,
Crisp wind nips at the skin,
Now arm over shoulder,
John's arm like a shelter,
Comforting, warm, and strong,
Happiness without words,
A presence is enough.

Years of love,
The same dark room,
The same park,
The same night sky,
On one knee,
John says marry me,
His love stands him up,
Tear in eye,
We can't, it's forbidden,
John looks up,
But Eric I love you why why,
