Loved for a Living

Why be with someone when I can be alone?

Sunrise to sunset,

sing out because there are no strings on me.

Being in a relationship is the hardest thing I could do.

Why deal with the rise and fall of two hearts

tied together from fighting for the last strands of dominance,

when I could just stay in on Fridays?

Close my eyes and take some time for me,

find some shred of darkness and call it night;

let it put me to sleep.

So god, why don't I sleep?

Is it something in your smile

that keeps me needing a few more hours of light?

That you make my heart leap to 200 beats per second,

and all you did was say “love” and “you” in the same sentence.

You make me feel alive.

God, maybe I don't sleep

because you make our biggest world possible,

and even a little easy.

You go from sunset to sunrise

making me feel like the world

is on my side.

Because I deal with all the whirls of pain and dark,

just to feel the rise and fall

of your heartbeat under my palm.

Two hearts

tied together by something light.

So maybe I'm writing this

because I love you through and through.

And when I'm surrounded by thoughts and missing you,

I'd like to believe you're reading this because you love me too.
