For many years, looked down upon as slaves
Whites pointed the finger and said how to behave
Thankfully, King stood up for those who could not
Instead of allowing those slaves to rot
He told the world that he had a dream
Then proceeded with his civil rights scheme
Rosa Parks went to jail for a seat on the bus
Looking to no one but herself for the needed trust
Their efforts made a difference for what I see
Their changes allowed my parents to be
White woman, black man take their little girl's hand
I hope if I lived back then, I would have taken a stand.
