Memories from Home

Tue, 04/12/2016 - 23:33 -- sirdod

They start with the hours spent in the Barbie Room

My sister and me running the town

in the midst of a space invasion executed by Isaac

Then we’d hear the ring-a-ling

and fly up the stairs to tell Mom and Dad

the stories of our day over dinner in the doughboy kitchen

There’s also days at Grandma and Grandpa’s

Card games and puzzles with Grandma wrapped in an afghan

or dancing with Grandpa to the hip-swingin’ Santa Clause

and the food was always fantastic

cinnamon rolls, gingersnaps, pizzelles, and sugar cookies

We could never go wrong with Grandma’s cooking

Those were the days of carefree curiosity

Not a doubt in my mind that all birthdays would be spent with family

around a wrapped Velveeta box with candles stuck inside and the perfect eclairs sitting by

My family - we were inseparable

They move on to the late nights spent watching NCIS

My family and me starring at the TV

anxious to see what case the team will get next lead by Gibbs

Then we’d hear the ding dong

and speed up the stairs to grab the Fortune City

quick to return to the show in the spacious yet homey room

There’s also the times spent in the mountains

Board games and s’mores with Rachael and Isaac

or driving to Grand Lake for the world’s best ice cream

and the lazy days were always great

watching movies, doing puzzles, and curling up next to the fire

We would never get bored in the mountains

Those were the days of holding on to every moment

Knowing that soon the fun would end and life would start again

but everything would be okay as long as I have family because

my memories from home are family
