Moon of My Life

Before us, it was me.

A hollow house stood on top of riches wider than the eye could see;

Nothing would stop me from knocking on the door of the bourgeoisie.

The thought of experiencing poverty was frightening,

But I promised myself I'd never change and join the right wing.

All of my goals related to wealth,

Everything else went on the shelf.

"How much money do you need to get?"

"Enough to write my name in the sky... with my own private jet."

And then I met you,

In all of your glory and virtue,

In Abu Dhabi, of all places,

The land of modesty and camel races.

As your gentle whispers of "I love you" kissed my face,

I found my way to my favorite place,

Right under your head, to your chest,

And closed my eyes to all of the rest.

Of course, I still think about my future,

But it's more about what I can do for her.

Nearly all of the money that I'll earn,

Will be tuition-bound, inside of an urn.

My fears don't stem from a lack of prosperity,

But rather a lack of familial stability.

"How much money do you need?"

"Enough for a couple college degrees."

Thank you for all that you do, L.

Love, A
