At first sight,
Her white skin melted the eyes of a bystander
Her rosy lips curved that of a muse
Her silky hair swayed loosely
She made the child yearn for its beauty
Forsaking memories of unpleasant events
Revealing a doll’s ability to redress confidence
As a reflection of the winsome whites
But another doll lay shunned
Her swarthy skin repudiated the eyes of a bystander
Her portly lips abased the image of an angel
Her coarse hair stagnated in shame
She makes the child’s captivation wane
Revalidating a putrid color
Asserting a doll’s ability to seem not a doll
But a symbol of toxic principles woven in a nation
And while the white dolls decorate homes
Masses of black dolls are abandoned on shelves
All crying for an embrace
Until a black pride movement rose
Her rich lips
Her transparent skin
Her delicate locks
Redeemed the embodiments of an equal nation
