Do you know what year it is?
What century we’re in?
You say racism is gone
You say we all have rights
Is it right for me to feel this way
Everyday I feel that I am being judged
Because of my gender,
Because of my race,

You take me back to a time of pain
You take me back to a movement
A movement that will be remembered for millenniums
Treat me like I’m Rosa Parks?
Then I will tell you,
I will not get up
I must take a stand
Who are you to tell me who I am?
I will fight for my right
You will not declare what is fair
I will not get up
I am strong
This is where I belong
My people have been so oppressed
So I will not get up

Do not discriminate
For we are all the same race
Do not see the color of my skin
We are all women and men
The gay and the straight,
We can all relate
We are not the same
But equal in everyway
I will not get up

We must take a stand
For this is a movement
Since 1955 with Emmet Till
Things have not changed we still kill
Discriminating against our own race
Who says we’re good enough?
Who keeps us alive?
We must take a stand.
Maybe just hold a hand,
Together we shall overcome
Not we shall
But we will overcome
