My Black Is My Burden

My blackness automatically sets the path for trials and tribulation,

My blackness will cause prejudicesness against me,

My blackness will make it harder for me to get a job,

My blackness will make me have to work twice as hard as everyone else,

My blackness will be a constant reminder to others that I am "inferior,"

My blackness could possibly keep me from getting justice,

My blackness is my burden.

But my burden is my blessing.

My blackness is a constant reminder that I am a descendent of strong people,

People who have been through hell and still kept their dignity, and self-respect,

My blackness shows that I am different, and different always stands out,

My black is gold,

Beautiful, glistening as the son touches my skin,

My black is my burden , and a blessing indeed.
