My color and storm

Tue, 01/10/2017 - 17:21 -- Buggles

It all started with blinding colors
The lights so bright it was almost impossible to see
I was heading forward
I completed the task of school
Hell, I did that twice in a week
But the clouds of change blew in a terrible storm
Building slowly at first
Until it became
A hurricane
I was surrounded by doubt and indecision
Many died in my family
But they were only the beginning
I tried to stay true
I went to school
Though I saw little point at the time
The clouds began to break
And there was color in the sky
But then the thunder and lightning of the election rolled in
The white man is still on top
And he wants to send us back
We rally and March
We speak and protest
But they try not to listen
I've gone unheard
But i've not gone mad
I try to find the color
Those voluminous lights that surrounded me in the beginning
But they have all faded to diminishing Gray's
I think positively
I have a job
I have a home
I have a family
And believe it or not I still have a voice
I'm having a hard time
Deciding
Was 2016 really that bad
Only time will tell
After every great storm
Comes a magnificent light
Be it a rainbow
Or just the sun
My time like many others has just begun
And I refuse to wait out a storm
When I love dancing in the rain

This poem is about:
Me
My family
My country
