My Judgment

It is said to "not judge a book by its cover",
Mama's advice.
Yet I am judged.
Justified by society
and immense disparity.

I am the book with the dark cover
and dark eyes,
But the light eyes do not like that.
Things i did not understand.

I stand up to them,
although segregated.
I try, these rallying cries of mine.
They told me to sit down.
I did not obey.

I served their requests but I was tired.
The man with a dream
came and inspired me.
I shall not sit down
for my pride is high.
It is time and society's rotten apple shall rise.
As home-made American apple pie.
Only Lord knows what I am fighting for.
