Every day passes much faster than expected,
And this can make it hard to notice what is neglected.
Such as old friends, relatives, or mentors that you used to admire,
You are left with only memories of the mutual relationship which took place prior.
You will meet a lot of people throughout your years,
Each encounter will shape who you are, so select the right peers.
Always remember to keep good karma on your side,
Although one thing you can tone down, is that strong sense of pride.
Life is simple, if you do good deeds,
Then good karma will help assist you with your needs.
Be confident, but remain humble and modest,
Because nobody likes an arrogant show off, let’s be honest.
As time passes, you begin to realize that your parents were not being overprotective.
But they were simply teaching you an important lesson about how you should live.
This is an epiphany which is stumbled upon when you leave adolescence,
And you learn that these lessons were more like presents.
Each individually wrapped for the right occasion,
Such as paying bills on time and keeping a home clean, are some of the answers to life’s equation.
If you are responsible, then life is facilitated.
But you may not notice the traits that were instilled within you, when you were created.
Until the day when you are approved for any loan,
Because your mom always taught you that a bill cannot be put on “postpone.”
When you realize that you want a solid foundation, before starting a family of your own.
That is when you learn of the morals and values that you’ve known.
Reminiscing on old arguments can be upsetting, because you realize that you were being absurd.
But when you are young, the biggest dilemma is wanting to be heard.
Then you conclude later, that maybe it was better no one paid you any mind.
Because wisdom at that age is hard to find.
It comes with age and life experience,
After a while, all the advice your parents gave you starts to make sense.
Long talks with your parents used to be a chore,
But when you get older you grow fond of the talks, and always seem to want more.
Your parents were once your biggest rival,
Now they are your best friends, who are there for you when your problems drive you up a wall.
As time passes, your tastes change in a variety of ways,
From the traits you look for in a mate, to opening up your taste pallets, or slang words that you choose to rephrase.
When you were young you looked for a mate because of popularity or appearance,
But later in life realize more important things matter such as ambition, drive, goals, and intelligent coherence.
Sometimes a book can be more entertaining than a television show,
Especially when accompanied by a glass of Merlot.
Life tends to take a direction towards routine and scheduled days.
But don’t worry, adulthood is much funner than your adolescent phase.
Even through the busy days, you can still find time to wash your ice cream down with a beer.
Because you make your own rules, and there is nobody to stop you here.
Unless you step behind the wheel of a car,
Then it’s up to the law, but we all know that a DUI doesn’t get you very far.
Each day your decisions seem to get wiser,
Then when you look back at your naïve decisions, you wonder why you never hired an advisor.
Each day I am grateful to have another 24 hours to explore this world that we live in,
Because we can accomplish anything, the possibilities are endless, just close your eyes and imagine.
If you want to skydive, I know a place in Lodi that has a great deal.
If that is not your cup of tea, get in tune with nature, camp somewhere, and explore something real!
There is so much to discover with this time that we are given,
But we must not take it for granted because not all things can be forgotten and forgiven.
There are evils out there such as cholesterol and diabetes,
You are never too young to start worrying about these,
Especially if you want to be in your grandchild’s wedding pictures, saying “CHEESE!”
You must take chances, try new things, and keep an open mind,
Because these are the things that make happy people, and those are the best kind.
Keep your mind exercising as much as your body,
Because you won’t always look like such a young hottie.
When a problem has you stressing, find your state of “flow.”
You’ll feel like you’re on top of the world again, staring down at your problem below.
In conclusion, never underestimate a smile.
It sends good vibes, builds friendships, adds years to your life, try it for a while.
