On My Own

Poetry is a way to express how you feel about aspects of your life. You care share your deepest desires, worries, or admiration in a unique way.

On My Own:

When I was born, you took me in your arms.

You promised I would never come to harm.

When I was two, you blocked the wind for me.

You told me that the wind could never blow away the strongest trees.

When I was five, you held my hand.

We stood strong together as the waves crashed against the sand.

When I was nine, you picked me up after a fall.

You said not to let it faze me at all.

When I was twelve, you rushed to my side.

You stayed with me all night while I cried.

When I was fifteen, you taught me to drive.

You never once complained though not certain we would survive.

When I was 18, you helped me pack.

You looked up at me with glistening eyes and told me you would always have my back.

Although I know, it must have been hard.

You realized I no longer needed a guard.

I am ready to face the world all alone.

Despite how strong the wind may be.

I will not sway, like the sturdiest tree.

The waves may try to pull me away.

I will stand my ground and will not stray.

Sometimes I still will fall.

I will pick myself up and bravely face it all.

The thunder may shake the ground with all its might.

I will keep my path in the darkest nights.

All of my life, you prepared me for leaving home.

I am ready to face the world on my own.
