A Mystery
Spoken Poetry Assignment “A Mystery” Stephanie Jones
I dont live in a perfect world and we never will
“Some Black girl” is my name
Yes, maybe i seem different
but deep inside all of us are the same
but we don't get along cause my skins brown and your skins…
brown i'm just a tad bit darker and plain to see
but you dont care
so its a mystery
write it down in a book call it history
cause thats the class i'm sitting in
and its putting me to sleep
and when i wake
please tell me it was all a dream.
Its a mystery
Its an algebra problem
Its hard to come up with a solution so we
Riot over our rights fights wars and revolutions
You think you know me but trust me you don't.
Im not just Some Black girl.
I was put on this earth for a reason
its a mystery but don't dread me in your misery
of whos who and why the color of my skin won't change
day by day as time flies by
discrimination is not the answer
your violent words wont hold me for ransom
i cant i wont will not
im telling you with everything ive got
I will not be discriminated..
.
.
.
i cant make the time tick faster than it already does
tick tock..tick tock
its still a mystery.. you see
if there wasnt my skin would we all look like aliens?
If there wasn't yours would we all be jail?
Tick tock tick tock.
Its not over it has only just begun
We battle every day this war will never be won
we are.. born into a generation that carries on this strange legacy
of discrimination that will Never go away until we all have a say It will remain a mystery.
